My Little Girl – The Process
My Little Girl is story number forty-four in the #52ShortStories challenge.
**SPOILERS BELOW. If you have not read the story and want to be (hopefully) surprised, come back to this when you’re done.**
This was an odd one. The idea struck me like lightning and I was scared to write it, to be honest. I was sitting next to my son on the couch and we were having so much fun playing together when this terrible question hit me–What would it be like to lose a child who is such a source of happiness? Of course, that seemed a powerful enough incident to get started on a story, but I had to add one of those twists that I love so much–what if the parent was not just responsible, but did it on purpose? Why would a parent do that? And so the result is My Little Girl.
Needless to say, I was relieved to wrap this one up, finishing it in only three days.
