Our Modern Hope – The Process

Our Modern Hope is story number fifty-one in the #52ShortStories challenge.

Where in the world did this come from? Seriously, if you find out, let me know.

I did pull the title from a phrase that caught my eye. It came from Yeats’s Ego Dominus Tuus (which is an amazing poem). So I will say it’s often surprising what comes from one’s imagination based on a phrase alone. As I’ve written these stories over the past year, it’s really solidified the truth in the typical writer’s snarky response to “Where do you get your ideas?”

Though the setting was science-fiction, I really wanted to add some comedy and romance. One reader seemed to confirm it worked, so I’m happy about that!

I can’t believe it, folks. One story left in my grand adventure. If I can sum it up in a single phrase, it would be: This is only the beginning.
