Weekly Recap – December 13th, 2013

Happy Friday everyone. I’m usually not the superstitious type, so I will make no mention of it being the 13th, other than that one right there.

This post will be short and sweet as my week has been filled with the following items:

1.) Day job. Booooooring.

2.) Studying for an IT re-certification test which I will be taking Monday morning. Boooooring.

3.) Research reading. Exciting! Learning so much about life centered around the California gold rush. The rags to riches to rags stories are epic.

This weekend will be full of #2 and #3 for me, so I will have to live vicariously through you guys. Don’t let me down!

  1. Ha! I’ll be living vicariously through you! My weekend will actually be more boring (if that is possible).

I might get a chance to go hiking on Sunday. If I do, I’ll take a picture and post on Monday.

    1. Ooh, yes, hiking! Would love to see a photo. I foresee a World’s Most Boring Weekend competition in the works. Probably would end up on ESPN2 at some point.

  2. You make your wife do all the Christmas shopping?! (Maybe you want to add a #4…)

    1. Hah, you do not yet know the genius of my wife when it comes to Christmas shopping. She does this novel thing of buying stuff throughout the year and then when it comes to December, it’s like, everything is already magically there. How I love that woman…

  3. Haha, this post made laugh. I love that your tone for the first two items is “Booorrring” and then you get super excited about California Gold Rush research. Spoken like a true writer!!!

    1. I know, right? *sigh* One person’s boooooring is another person’s yay, I suppose. 😀

  4. Ha! That’s funny! My life has its boring parts too. So I might let you down. I hope to redeem myself by seeing The Hobbit sometime this weekend, after I see Frozen tomorrow.
Good luck on your recertification test!

    1. I guess that’s why Elmore Leonard said to skip the boring parts when we write. We have enough of them already. 🙂

Looking forward to seeing the second Hobbit movie as well. Sounds like you have an exciting weekend ahead!
      Thanks for the ‘good luck’!

  5. LOL! Thanks for sparing us the borrrrrrrrring details, Phillip. I’m excited for this weekend. It’s going to rain all day Saturday with temperatures in the low 40’s. I’ll be hunkered inside writing, reading and maybe a little cleaning in between. Have a fantastic weekend and good luck on your test!

    1. Wow, I’d send you some sunshine Jill, but it may get snagged on the Rockies. Thanks for the luck and I hope your writing is productive!

  6. You’re so funny! The weather sucks here in Chicago, so don’t live vicariously through me, my friend. The kids can’t wait to get out and sled today, but I’ll be steering clear. A little online Christmas shopping for me, then putting up decorations, and a nice grown-up restaurant with my husband tonight.

Good luck on your boring test.

  7. I have a feeling you have attracted too many like-minded individuals too your site for your wish to come true 😉 Can sympathise massively with number 1, except in my case boooooring also comes packaged with loads of hours too. Knuckling down to get through it though and looking forward to a decent break at xmas – lots of family time and the odd escape into my writing world. Good luck on the test.

  8. I hope you’re surviving the week alright, Phillip!

    1. Surviving it well! Hoping the same for you.

  9. Oh, how I understand the effects of a “booooooring” job! Ok, my day job isn’t that bad, but I’m perpetually distracted now that I’d rather spend my time blogging, writing and reading. (Yes, knitting too but my day job never slowed that down for me.). Hope your test went well :). And, by the way, aren’t you just loving those posts on horror writing on Kristen Lamb’s blog?!

    1. Yeah, I exaggerate the monotony of my day job, but that’s what writers do. 🙂 But I know exactly what you mean about time being better spent writing/reading/blogging.

And yes, those horror writing posts have been excellent!
